CUTTING YOUR CUTICLES IS BAD, DON’T DO IT
Cuticles should not be cut. The only maintenance you should do if you want is to gently push them back with something small like a popsicle stick. The eponychium is the other part you dont want to cut. The eponychium sits on top of the growing nail plate. is the skin that lies directly on top of the newly developing nail plate. The thick skin at the base of the nail known as the proximal nail fold shouldn’t be cut either, this opens the door up to infection.

What is the nail matrix
The nail matrix looks like a half moon shape at the base of the nail. The nail matrix has special cells that make the nail plate, these are the fastest dividing cells. Damaging the nail plate could result in a lack of nail growth or even deformed nails. Your cuticles are part of this nail matrix.
