Hey everyone! Through my many years of fitness and nutrition I uncovered a huge problem. Many of the protein powders out there taste HORRIBLE. For the longest time many of the protein shakes I consumed left me unsatisfied and quite honestly, disgusted.
Getting enough protein to fit your nutrition should not seem like a chore. The goal is to be consistent over a long period of time. With something that doesn’t taste good, I was often wondering if I’d give up entirely.
However, there is hope! After experimenting with different brands and a homemade protein shake recipe I discovered shakes that not only tasted good, but left me wanting more! The best part is, it does not take a master chef or cook to mix a protein shake.
If you are looking for your own homemade protein shake recipe, give some of these a try!
Blue Moon Ice Cream Protein Shake
If you’re looking to make a blue moon ice cream homemade protein shake, give this a try!
You are going to need a few things in order to get started.
- Shaker Cup or Blender Bottle
- Vanilla Protein Powder (feel free to ask for my favorite)
- Almond Breeze Unsweetened Milk
- Lemon Extract
- Almond Extract
- Blue food coloring (not needed, just for extra touch)
Making your shake is quite simple once you have the materials. Put 10-12oz of almond milk into your blender bottle (Or you can experiment with almond milk and part water depending on your taste preference). Next, Use one rounded scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder. Lastly, add 1/2 tsp of lemon extract and 1-2 tsp of almond extract depending on preference.
Shake your bottle and enjoy your low calorie homemade protein shake. Feel free to experiment with the ingredients as to find what tastes best to you!
Chocolate Cinammon Protein Shake
One of my go-to shakes to spice it up is a chocolate cinnamon homemade protein shake.
Ingredients needed for this shake are the following.
- Shaker Cup or Blender Bottle
- Chocolate Protein Powder (again, ask me for recommendations if you need one)
- Almond Breeze Unsweetened Milk
- Cinammon
- Cayenne Pepper
Similarly, you need a shaker cup to begin. Pour in about 8-10 ounces of almond milk (or a combination of water and almond milk depending on preference). Next, add a rounded scoop of your favorite chocolate protein powder, one tsp of cinnamon, and 1/8th tsp of cayenne pepper. As with all shakes, you may alter the amount of ingredients to your personal preference.
Shake it up and enjoy! This shake is always a good choice when needing to switch it up. Eating right and getting enough protein shouldn’t be difficult, it should be fun.
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cookie Protein Shake
This peanut butter chocolate protein shake will leave your body thinking you just had a cheat meal!
You will need these ingredients to mix your shake.
- Shaker Cup or Blender Bottle
- Chocolate Protein Powder (of your choice)
- PB 2 Powdered Peanut Butter
- Almond Breeze Unsweetened Milk
By now, you know the drill, pour 8-10 oz of almond milk (mix in water if you’d like). Next, put a scoop of your favorite chocolate protein powder followed by 1-2 scoops of PB 2 powdered peanut butter. The reason we use powdered peanut butter is because it is significantly lower in calories than that of regular peanut butter. You can experiment with the amount of PB 2 you would like to use based on your preference of taste.
What Did You Enjoy?!
After you give these recipes a try I would love to hear which shakes you enjoyed the most.
Many people struggle to choke down protein powder on its own. That’s why it is important to find something that works. There are so many different combinations of protein shakes that you can make; the goal is to find what’s best for you. Consistency is key when eating right, you just have to find something you can stick with.
Again, please share your comments on these protein shake recipies and also share your own! I’m always open to trying new shakes and would love to add your thoughts to a future post.
